Quality Lab Supervisor

  • Directly supervises the Quality Control Laboratory.  Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws and regulations.  Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Writes sampling, testing and operating procedures for the Quality Control Lab and ensures proper test methodology is followed during daily operations.
  • Provides technical guidance to Quality Control lab including performing sample analysis, test method development, analysis of test results and data, adjustment of chemical formulations, and compound/reagent/solution preparation.
  • Reviews specifications and testing data to ensure the required testing is done in accordance to defined specifications and procedures.
  • Ensures testing is completed in accordance with established schedules, accepted standards and customer requirements.
  • Organizes safety and technique training for laboratory technicians.
  • Compiles and analyzes test information to determine operating efficiency of process or equipment and to diagnose malfunctions.
  • Recommends measures to improve testing procedures and use of equipment.
  • Analyzes and resolves, or assists in trouble-shooting testing issues
  • Maintains test records, archive samples, and SQL database.
  • Implements company policies to workers and enforces safety regulations
  • Provides training on new or modified test equipment and/or tools
  • Prepares and presents product quality trend reports to management as required or requested.
  • Develops and initiates standards and methods for inspection, testing and evaluation.
  • Establishes program to evaluate precision and accuracy of calibration system, production equipment, and testing, measurement and analytical equipment.
  • Develops and implements methods and procedures for disposition of discrepant material and devises methods to assess cost and responsibility
  • Prepares and presents reports to Management as directed
  • Directs works engaged in measuring and testing product and tabulating data concerning materials, product, or process quality and reliability.
  • Performs Continuous Improvement projects, Kaizen events, 6S events, etc. as directed.
  • Responsible for maintaining calibration systems for all monitoring and measuring devices.
  • Responsible for maintaining quality assurance systems. 
  • Skills:
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common business, professional, scientific and technical journals, technical specifications and government regulations.  Ability to respond to common inquiries from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information to management, customers, employees and public groups.
    • Experience in managing direct reports.
    • Bachelor of Science degree (BS) in Chemical Engineering from a four-year accredited college or university and a minimum of 3 (three) years related experience.
    • Previous ISO-9001 or TS-16949 experience preferred.
    • Specialized knowledge/experience in both inorganic and organic chemistry required.
    • 6 (Six) Sigma Green Belt certification preferred.
    • Software Programs such as Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Access, Outlook, PowerPoint).
    • Statistical analysis programs such as Mini-tab preferred.

    Work Environment:
    This position works in both an office environment and a noisy plant environment.  The employee will regularly be working near moving mechanical parts and high temperature equipment and may on occasion be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, outdoor weather conditions, risk of electrical shock, heat or dangerous chemicals.
