Mechanical Designer

Summary:

Preparation of GA Drwgs as well as detailed design drawings (2D & 3D) for various process equipment. This includes performing detailed mechanical strength calculation as well as preparation of all necessary BOM and related documentation. Create technical specifications/purchase requisitions and evaluate corresponding bids in order to support procurement process. Ensure proper and timely fabrication of steel parts at sub suppliers. Cooperation and interaction with the global engineering force, utilization of applicable technical company standards and company software, i.e. CAD 2D/3D, PDM, DMS, mech. strength calculation tools, SAP and standard MS Office software. Preparations of Equipment Arrangement Drwgs for Systems as well as drafting P&ID's on the basis of process information provided by the global Project Engineering group. Maintain SGL specific technical standards and drafting standards.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Mechanical design of process equipment with 2D/3D CAD Systems (AutoCAD, Solid Edge) in accordance with SGL specific design standards and in accordance  with order specific requirements/specifications
  • Preparation of mechanical strength calculations acc. local codes (e.g. EN, ASME, CODAP, etc) for process equipment
  • Preparation of general assembly drawings in accordance with SGL specific drafting/design standards
  • Preparation of detailed design drawings including preparation of related bills of material, enter BOM into SAP
  • Approval and release of drawings and BOM's
  • Preparation of technical specifications of steel parts for inquiry, perform analysis of corresponding bids, place purchase orders in cooperation/consultation with procurement
  • Coordination and cooperation with fabrication at shop floor level in order to continuously gain feedback for improvement of equipment design (economic fabrication)
  • Cooperation with global CAD Engineering force
  • International support of CAD Engineering projects
  • Technical clarification and consulting to customer orders in direct contact with customers and component suppliers in coordination with project manager if necessary temporarily on different SGL Sites global
  • Maintain resource planning in allocation of the work package
  • Supporting the product managers in standardization of process equipment
  • Preparation of Equipment Layout Drwgs for systems/plants
  • Preparation of P&ID's on the basis of red lined P&ID drafts
  • Preparation of electrical documentation as a support to I&C department
  • Innovation and further evolution of products 

 

Your Profile:

  • Associate degree or University degree with 2-4 year college in mechanical engineering or equivalent
  • 4-6 years of relevant experience
  • Experience as chemical process equipment CAD Engineer
  • Expertise in mechanical design of process equipment
  • Expertise in mechanical strength calculation (local codes e.g. ASME)
  • Experienced and enthusiastic CAD user in 2D and 3D (AutoCAD/Solid Edge/SolidWorks)
  • Experience in MS Office (Word, Excel) and some SAP
  • Fluent in English language
  • Focused on cost, quality, efficiency within design of equipment
  • Experience related to equipment fabrication
  • Prefer to have some experience with electrical schematics, piping and instrument diagrams
  • Open minded for complex design engineering challenges and changed requirements
  • Structured and professional working skills
  • Ability to work under time pressure
  • Handling of Mechanical Design projects and production orders on schedule
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Good mathematics; analytical and problem solving skills required
  • Comply with and support all aspects of the company's quality management program
  • Ability to work well within a small team
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form
  • Ability to work well without close supervision
