Manager, Human Resources

The SGL site in St. Marys, Pennsylvania, is our largest graphite component processing site worldwide and employs around 310 people. It is characterized by its broad product portfolio and expertise in machined, purified and CVD coated parts used especially in the fast growing LED and semiconductor industries. The site is part of the Business Unit Graphite Solutions.


 

SGL Carbon’s St Marys plant is a part of the Business Unit Graphite Solutions and employs around 290 employees, of which 150 are a unionized workforce.  Our facility focuses on a variety of specialty tailor-made solutions in response to our customers’ challenges.  Graphite Solutions serves a variety of industries, including Semiconductor and LED, automotive, industrial applications, sealing technology, fuel cell, solar and polysilicon. 

 

We are searching for an experienced Human Resources Manager for our manufacturing plant in St Marys, PA.  The HR Manager will provide Human Resources leadership for 2 plans and collaborate closely with senior plant management as well as global and regional HR partners to support group and/or BU objectives.  The HR Manager carries out responsibilities in the following functional areas:  employee relations, benefits, staffing, training, performance management, onboarding, policy implementation, recruitment and selection, HR compliance including local, state and federal employment law compliance.  This position requires substantial knowledge regarding employment laws and regulations, grievance resolution, collective bargaining, excellent judgment, ethical practice, consistency and proper handling of confidential information. 

 

  What to expect  

  • Maintains strategic business partner relationship with site and global management team to identify and develop strategies and solutions regarding employment-related objectives and issues.  

  • Establish and manage plant HR department goals, objectives and systems in alignment with BU and Global HR strategy.  

  • Labor Relations: Facilitates contract negotiations, grievance resolution, contract interpretation, progressive discipline, etc.  

  • Counsels and collaborates with managers and supervisors regarding employee relations practices, performance review process, objective setting, employee development, training, discipline, etc.  

  • Manages employee-management relations and is primary information resource for employment relations topics.  Investigates and resolves employee concerns.  

  • Manage all HR programs including recruitment, benefits administration, compensation, performance management and employee training & development.  

  • Responsible for the interpretation and application of HR policies, recommending changes and monitoring compliance.   

  • Supports workplace safety and health activities and manages Worker’s Compensation program.  

  • Supports employee recognition and appreciation efforts site wide.  

  • Supports and administers PA State Apprenticeship program.  

  • Facilitates annual OMP headcount process.  

  • Prepare and manage HR department budget.  

  • Monthly KPI reporting.  

  • Additional duties as needed to support site and business needs.  

 

What we’re looking for  

  1. Proficient computer skills utilizing various programs including, SAP, Success Factors, Dayforce Microsoft Office products. 

  1. Strong organization, problem solving and time management skills 

  1. Proficient written and verbal communication skills. 

  1. Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.  Ability to interface with all levels of the organization.  

  1. Critical thinking skills 

  1. Conflict resolution skills 

  1. 4-year degree in Human Resources, Labor Relations, or Business-related field. 

  1. 5 to 7 years of operational HR experience in a manufacturing facility. 

  1. HRCI or SHRM certification, preferred.  

  1. Previous union/ labor relations experience is required.  

  1. Working knowledge of local, state & federal employment laws.
