HVAC Technician

SUMMARY OF JOB CONTENTS:

Primarily responsible for performing repairs and maintenance to a variety of equipment including refrigeration, air conditioning, electric motors, heating units, heat pumps, hermetic compressors, light commercial furnaces, boilers, intake and exhaust fans, and economizers. 


ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  •  Responsible for diagnosing and repairs of a broad range of electrical, pneumatic and mechanical systems as they apply to facility equipment including but not limited to: air handlers, HVAC, freezers, building automation, pumps, cooling towers, chilled water systems and boilers. 
  • Responsible for trouble shooting and maintaining an Allerton HVAC Control system and integrated interfaces or similar. 
  • Responsible for troubleshooting HVAC electrical circuits.
  • Responsible for basic heating and cooling cycles to include: identifying components in the system, understanding how each component works, diagnosing problems in the conditioning system using specific test methods to the trade plus other devices for routine maintenance and to troubleshoot.
  • Evaluates industrial refrigeration equipment to detect malfunctions, diagnose and repair the operation of the equipment. 
  • Research parts required for repairs and subsequent requisitioning.  
  • Works independently with little direction as well as takes direction while maintaining a team oriented environment with other departments and the management team. 
  • Must be able to respond to calls outside of normal working hours and be flexible with breaks based on business needs.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor


REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:

•    HS diploma or equivalent and 2 years of experience working in the trade
•    Excellent analytical, interpersonal, project management, organization, communication and problem solving skills. 
•    Ability to read and interpret ladder diagrams, loop diagrams and schematics. 
•    Experience working with 3 phase power (up to 480 volt). 
•    Understands and has proven ability and experience in basic electron theory, AC and DC voltage, single phase and three phase circuits, and series and parallel circuits. 
•    Must have the ability to read basic wiring diagrams.
•    Experience using multi-meters to read voltage, current and resistance values and understands the process that should be taken based upon the information received.
•    Knowledge and experience with industrial HVAC systems.
•    Must be able to work safely while effectively troubleshooting electrical systems 
•    Must be able to operate the equipment necessary to perform maintenance and calibration tasks. 
•    Ability to exceed internal customer requirements.

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:

•    Associate degree or equivalent technical training preferred plus two years of experience working in the trade in a manufacturing/industrial environment
•    Experience with Allerton control systems, preferred
•    SAP experience, preferred.
•    Experience with Rockwell Automation/Allen Bradley equipment, preferred
•    EPA Universal License

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.  While performing the functions of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to extreme heat and frequently exposed to work near moving mechanical parts.  Must be able to work at heights or confined areas for extended periods including but not limited to confined spaces, on roofs and ladders with appropriate safety equipment.  Must be able to lift 50 pounds occasionally.  Must also drive personnel and material lifts. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
