Maintenance Technician (Multi-Craft)

Please note: There is a short written test and a welding test prior to the interview.

Summary of Job Content:

Perform daily maintenance activities as assigned by supervision/manager/planner-scheduler. Troubleshoot mechanical issues and repair according to plant/vendor standards. Read and comprehend mechanical drawings, blue prints and diagrams. Install and maintain mechanical systems and equipment. Complete pertinent documentation as required for recording of calibrations, daily work performance and PMs. Understand mechanical components and systems with the ability to utilize this knowledge to maintain, analysis malfunctions and assimilate proper plan and repairs as required throughout the facility.

Perform any other duties, as required by the department supervisor or manager, to support department, plant and company objectives and/or goals.

Core Dimensions:

  • Read, understand and follow work order instructions.

  • Communicate with management and supervision to understand scope and desired outcome of repairs, projects and assigned tasks.

  • Perform repairs in a professional, efficient manner, bringing the equipment back into manufacturer and plant specific operational standards while observing all safety procedures to include LOTO, fall protection standards, confined space requirements, as well as appropriate PPE for atmosphere and area of work being performed.

  • Utilize task specific mechanical equipment

  • Perform math functions including, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and trigonometry; convert fractions to decimals, as required to execute assigned tasks.

  • Perform preventive maintenance in accordance with technical manuals and/or SAP work order task lists.

  • Assist with inventory and cost control through proper utilization of parts and materials.

  • Complete all required paperwork accurately to include work orders, time cards, material sign out cards, etc.

  • Familiarize new millwrights on plant equipment, sharing knowledge and developing best practices throughout the job classification.

  • Proficiency in plant specific millwright tasks to include fabrication procedures, bearing installation and applications, monitoring and troubleshooting mechanical components of overhead cranes and production equipment, proper lubrication techniques, equipment installation procedures, and proper utilization and sizing, installation of mechanical fasteners.

  • Attend, contribute to and pass required training as related to the general maintenance at this facility in accordance with OSHA regulations.

1. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and repair facility mechanical systems and equipment.

  • Replace defective parts or repair as needed. Analyze recurring failures to the root cause and make necessary replacement or repairs to ensure issue is permanently eliminated

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • 3-5 yrs. Industrial millwright experience

  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task

  • Team oriented but can work independently

  • Proven troubleshooting skills

  • Commitment to safety (i.e., high level of situational awareness)

  • Electrical aptitude is a plus

  • Proficiency at reading blue prints, mechanical diagrams, manufacturer’s specifications and guidelines

  • Commitment to quality (i.e., SGL Excellence)

  • Self Motivated

  • Quick learner

  • Industrial welding experience

  • Welding certificate required

  • Demonstration of welding ability will be a requirement of pre-hire interview process

  • Ability to work at heights

Preferred Experience:

  • Industrial welding experience of 3 or more years

  • Current certified welder a plus

  • Overhead crane experience

  • Pipe welding, threading and installation experience

  • Heavy load rigging experience

  • Stainless and mild steel welding

  • Proficiency at reading mechanical drawings, blue prints and specifications

  • Mechanical mathematics

  • Fabrication experience

  • Confined space maintenance work experience

  • Hydraulic system troubleshooting and repairs

  • Machining experience is a plus
