SGL Carbon's North American Shared Services Center in Charlotte, North Carolina headquarters SGL Carbon, LLC in North America. The Shared Services Center is comprised of approximately 50 employees who support the SGL Carbon Business Units by providing quality services, leadership and accountability through excellence, teamwork, open and continuous communication, integrity and passion for success. All key administrative functions are represented at the Charlotte, NC site.
Summary of job content:
The Senior Export Control Specialist North America (“NA”), disciplinarily reporting to the Head of Legal NA with functional guidance from Head of GTO, coordinates and advises the SGL Carbon NA sites on Global Trade issues and is the key person for SGL NA Export Control compliance. The Senior Export Control Specialist NA shall manage, coordinate, direct, supervise and audit all regional and group-wide Export Control processes for SGL NA directly or indirectly through the export delegate network. Additionally, the Senior Export Control Specialist NA also functions as the substitute for the Senior Customs Specialist NA in their absence.
Key accountabilities:
- Key SGL NA and SGL Carbon internal expert for NA Export Control laws and regulations as well as the corresponding internal Policies, internally regulated Processes1 and externally regulated Procedures related to Global Trade.
- Monitor changes in NA export laws and regulations.
- Keep all relevant managers and executives up to date on new or revised export laws/regulations and potential impacts to SGL business.
- Coordinate and supervise all Export Control Delegates NA.
- Ensure timely information to and adequate training of Export Control Delegates NA and other SGL employees related to NA Export Control compliance (e.g. Export Control Licensing, Export Control Classifications, Technology Transfer).
- Harmonize, manage, coordinate and authorize applicable processes for NA Export Control (e.g. Export Control Licensing, Export Control Classifications, Technology Transfer);
- Act as SGL liaison with government committees, agencies and officials in NA along with authorized elected SGL Officers, if required.
- Manage, monitor and coordinate all Export Control Licenses (directly and indirectly).
- Manage, monitor and coordinate ITAR compliance (directly).
- Provide support to SGL NA sites regarding US government contracts requirements and related certifications/questionnaires.
- Support compliance with providing guidance and interpretation of concerned Regulations regarding cybersecurity relating to Technology Transfer and government contracts.
- Report errors, anomalies and alleged violations (using attorney-client privilege) and support any required investigations and remedial actions (i.e. compliance incidents).
- Execute export-control-related internal audits and support external audits by authorities.
- Provide internal expertise for special cases and liaise with external expert(s) in extraordinary cases, if necessary.
- When the GTS team is unavailable act as an emergency backup for the operation of SAP GTS; and align with other relevant functions in SGL comprising Logistics, SCM, Sales, Procurement, ITX…. as required.
Skills and Knowledge:
- 4-year bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college
- Strong knowledge of US Federal and State agencies and regulations pertaining to global trade including ITAR, EAR, NRC, OFAC, US Customs, USITC, DOD
- Demonstrated ability to make independent judgement regarding the interpretation and application of US regulations
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Experiences:
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant regulatory compliance experience, specifically export and customs, including documentation requirements, classifications, technology controls and licensing and exemption; experience using ACE
