Sewing Machine Operator

Job Summary:

 

Demonstrates knowledge of sewing machine operation, processes and equipment.  Performs & responsible for Operation and monitoring all equipment on the Sewing machine, and the ability to cut patterns specified by customer requirements Perform other duties as outlined by supervisor or lead person.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but not limited to:

 

  • Responsible for interpreting and execution of operation plans, task procedures, work order instructions, supplementary instructions, manufacturer's and customer's specifications, Material Data Sheets/SDS and safety rules.
  • Uses measuring devices such as rulers, tape measure.  
  • Know how to operate a sweing machine working with detailed seams and ensure good qualtiy for aerospace materials. 
  • Effectively comprehends and follows verbal instructions.
  • Supports packaging of finished products and prepares product and paperwork for shipment.
  • Watch gauges, dials, and output to make sure a machine is working properly.
  • Operate and control equipment.
  • Inspect and evaluate the quality of products.
  • Use hand tools such as, but not limited to, Scissors, knives, snips, pliers, mallets/hammers, wrenches, and screwdrivers. 
  • Work in production area as needed. 

Skills:

 

  • Ability to efficiently execute operation plans from a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
  • Effective in interpreting and executing standard operating procedures, work order instructions, supplementary instructions, manufacturer's and customer's specifications, Safety Data Sheets and safety rules. 
  • Education and/or Experience:

     

  • High school diploma or GED and minimum 3 years of experience in similar industrial manufacturing setting; or equivalent combination of advanced education and industrial manufacturing experience.

  • While performing the duties of this job, an employee is regularly required to use hands/fingers to handle, feel and reach.  An employee is required to walk, sit, climb and balance. 

  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.  Frequently lift/move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift/move up to 100 pounds. 
  • Specific vision abilities required include close and distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles.  The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; toxic or caustic chemicals, outside weather conditions and extreme heat.  The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
  • While on duty, Protective Equipment provided for this position must be used.
