Cost Accountant

This Cost Accountant position is part of our corporate shared services finance team. The position will support 9 Sites and 4 business units. The individual will ensure proper cost accounting and inventory valuation is in accordance with Corporate and local policies and guidelines. The position will be responsible for performing North American costing runs to determine North American consolidated GM for all BUs (excl. PT). The individual will provide Cost Accounting support and trouble shooting in addition to reviewing quarterly analysis and preparing overall summary memos on the inventory reserves for individual legal entities, including all sites. #CB1

 

Key Accountabilities

 

  • Define SAP-setup for new processes with regard to cost accounting structures
  • Execute and maintain SAP master data changes CO (cost centers, profit centers, reports)
  • Develop, update and enhance IT reports for cost accounting/controlling
  • Prepare North American inventory valuation using the material ledger, where appropriate
  • Coordinates site cycle counts with local count team(s) and reviews results. On a quarterly basis, prepares a memo as to the accuracy of the cycle count results
  • Coordinate any Annual Inventory Count (physical stock taking): provide inventories in scope (population & transition to balance sheet), post differences, and support roll forward and audit requests, where required. Travel to site, if necessary to manage count.
  • Coordination of all external year-end inventory audit activities for both IFRS & local GAAP in line with Group Accounting timetable
  • Execute month-end cost accounting close procedures for the sites, including necessary month-end journal entries and certain account analysis
  • Perform correct assignment of capital employed by segments / product line (profit-center)
  • Perform management reporting (functional area: REV, COGS, ADM, SLS etc.) in SAP by product line (profit-center)
  • Generate and post intercompany-related invoices for services (e.g. SLA, management fees, ITX, etc…)
  • Manage Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and other intercompany service agreements for legal entities in coordination with headquarters; define/initiate SLA
  • Prepare quarterly intercompany inventory profit elimination for the legal entity close
  • In coordination with local site controller, review and understand causes of monthly/quarterly manufacturing variances with site controllers and prepare a summary of results 
  • Prepare analysis/reports of utilization and idle costs with site controllers
  • Perform all ICS-controls related to inventory
  • Ensure fixed assets and construction in progress are recorded in accordance with Group guidelines, including annual useful life review and physical observation and assisting Sr. Tax Accountant with property tax returns
  • Coordinate with local site team(s) the annual Ghost Asset and Useful Life review. Discuss and document findings/actions with local site controller and summarize results in a memo. 
  • Review construction in progress account quarterly and on an annual basis, prepare a memo indicating the timely closure and capitalization of projects 
  • Define and coordinate the budgeting and forecasting process on cost center level (i.e. providing templates; input of data into SAP; plausibility checks)
  • Evaluate need for changes to profit centers and cost centers, including opening, closing and additions
  • Perform inventory standard costing and valuation, including prepare and update cost standards for material and labor in SAP
  • Prepare, review and update activity rate analysis for the appropriate cost centers at the site in coordination with local site controller
  • Determine cost allocation keys & maintain cost allocations
  • Decide and develop consensus on best methodology for cost allocations (i.e. for shared services) incl. communicating, monitoring and revising rules 
  • Calculating and performing actual cost allocations based on defined keys and procedures
  • Participate in the annual audit and special projects, as required
  • Support with execution of the site controller primary responsibilities:
  • Identify loss making contracts and determine need for provision for onerous contracts
  • Perform Actual vs. Standard cost variance analysis for (semi-)finished goods
  • Assessing need for specific inventory allowances; calculation & documentation of specific allowances

 

Your Profile

 

  • Bachelors Degree, preferably in accounting
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Knowledge of SAP software a plus, especially FI, CO, AM
  • Understanding of US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles with knowledge of International Accounting/International Financial Reporting Standards (IAS/IFRS) a plus
  • 3 plus years related work experience
  •  Previous experience in or working with manufacturing industry or a multi-entity vertically integrated structure a plus
  • Highly flexible with strong organizational skills and the ability to multi-task in a multi-site environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of plant and corporate personnel
  • Strong analysis/problem solving skills with the ability to work well without close supervision and at ease in independent decision making, “self-starter”
  • Willing to travel as required both domestically and internationally
